Recipe Ideas and Substitution Ideas

Let's be honest we all love to eat and sometimes in the world of being healthy we feel like we are eating the same items over and over again. I wanted to take time to share a few of my favorite ideas and exchanges I have made for healthier alternatives. I am not a big fan of recipes and tend to "wing it" in the kitchen so sorry I apologize for no measurements.

Sushi Roll Rice- Take brown rice, or white rice and mash up an avocado in it. You can add other items such as tomato or tuna. Sprinkle a little bragg into it as an alternative to soy sauce, and it taste very similar to a California roll without the mess!

Peanut Butter Cookie Oatmeal- microwave instant oatmeal with some water or skim milk add a little of non fat Vanilla light and fit yogurt and some all natural peanut butter, mix and enjoy!

Protein Pack- Take a half a cup of fat free cottage cheese and mix with a half of cup of light and fit non fat yogurt, flavor of your choice. Great source of calcium and protein

Healthy Lasagna- Take whole wheat pasta, ground turkey, fat free cream cheese, and fat free cheddar and layer as you would a normal lasagna. Great taste, with alternatives for much less fat.

Healthy Chicken Parm- Take chicken breasts and coat them in egg white then low fat bread crumbs and bake until done. Make whole wheat pasta and top with low sugar marinara sauce.

I use ground turkey to replace all ground beef, turkey bacon to replace regular bacon. Also a GREAT alternative is making your own ranch or replacing sour cream in recipes with Greek yogurt, very similar in taste without the fat and added protein.

Another great after work out trick is to blend your vanilla or chocolate protein powder with ice, and coffee and a little skim milk in a blender. It tastes like a frappe, has excellent protein, and the caffeine has been known to repair muscle tissue.
